Gardening
The growing of my own veggies is going well. Some of it is trial and error, but one of the plants that are going really well are the zucchinis (courgettes for some).
I’m having a stack of fun doing this gardeing thing. I’ve overgrown my tomatoes so they are taking longer to appear and ripen but the learning what to do is all part of the fun. This year I started with tomatoes, capsicums, cucumbers, zucchinis, strawberries and potatoes. Next year I have bigger plans.
And while on the topic of gardens, I have been working on Blackstone Garden lately. I’ve managed to get quite a bit of stitching done now that I’m making a point of taking at least an hour each night.
For those interested it’s stitched on 28ct Pansy from Pictures This Plus. The green knot is Dragon Opal (Vikki Clayton) with the outline in Moonglow (Room for Threads). The other knot is in a custom variegated silk by Vikki Clayton with the outline in Mystic Pools (Dinky Dyes). And all the blackwork, the colours assigned so far are: A – Rose Bay (Dinky Dyes), B – Noosa (Dinky Dyes), C – Deep Ocean (Vikki Clayton), D – Deep Blue Sea (Gloriana), G – Cabernet (Dinky Dyes). So just the Rose Bay to finish and then two more colours to assign and stitch and it’ll be done.

Love blackstone, the colour choices have worked really well, especially loving the dragon opal… it is such a scrummy colour
I’m very jealous of your garden too. I didn’t get anything started this year.. still want to get a couple of potted citrus tress given how many limes / lemons I can go through at times.
Are you planning on harvesting some corgette flowers to try filled on their own. They can be so impossibly hard to find in stores/markets but having the plants in your backyear should make that easier. I think the males only ever form flowers and it is only the femal plants that form the fruits.
anyway….
hehe
All you need is some bacon, cheese, wholemeal flour and a bit of milk, and you’ll have the makings of a fine quiche.
More pictures of your garden plz?
I’ve heard you can eat the flowers, just not sure it’s something I’d like to try. You’re right on the male/female too – you have both male and female flowers on a plant and only the female give you fruit.
Aguido, that quiche won’t be too quiche-y without eggs
And yep, I’ll take some more pics this weekend.
the flowers are excellent, dip them in an egg batter and then flour and then fry them till golden. I had them in Italy and they are a delight.
the black stone is just wonderful… you picked the colours well!
Thanks for that Sonya, maybe I’ll try those flowers, I’ll see if anymore of the male ones grow.
